Narrative:
Taxiing out in mkl; we were issued a taxi clearance of 'taxi to runway 20 via C and a.' as we were taxiing out we became confused about exactly where the departure end of the runway began. The commercial chart indicated that taxiway 'a' continued past the intersection of taxiway 'B;' however visually outside it was pretty clear that taxiway 'a' past taxiway 'B' was unmaintained. During the slight distraction while I was looking at the chart and comparing it to what we were seeing outside; I commented to the sic that the taxiway up ahead looks pretty closed; even though there was no 'X' on the pavement marking it as such. About the same time; ATC radioed us telling us that we had just crossed the hold short line for runway 20. The hold short line for 20 on taxiway 'a' is before the taxiway turns towards the runway. No one was on final or taking off at the time. The taxiway past the intersection of 'a' and 'B' is closed for what we could tell -- although that's not indicated on the chart or on the taxiway -- and the runway past that point is an overrun (which we noted on the chart during the confusion). We apologized to ATC and he reminded us to stop at the hold short line next time. In addition to the confusing taxi diagram for the airport which shows the taxiway continuing well past the intersection of taxiways 'a' and 'B;' I had been up since xa:00 working closely with the assistant chief pilot and dispatch to overcome some operational issues relating to aircraft performance prior to the flight earlier in the day; which was mentally draining. That; coupled with the intense heat and the confusing chart led to a distraction at precisely the time we approached the hold short line (which was also not in the place that we expected it to be). In situations like these we need to slow down and if there is any doubt; just stop the airplane and query ATC to clear up any confusion. I also need to be sure that when I am the pilot monitoring that I am continuously backing up the pilot flying visually outside when we are taxiing at all times and if I need to consult the chart we should stop the aircraft.

Title: A pilot reported that MKL's Taxiway A beyond the Runway 20 hold short line at the Taxiway B intersection is not marked as closed on either the commercial airport diagram or on the ground with an X even though it is not maintained.
