Narrative:
On approach to fll runway 9L at 1500' MSL when second officer crew called traffic at 2:30 position. PF from left seat observed traffic and took evasive action by increasing the rate of descent. Other traffic passed overhead within 500' on a north heading. First officer crew reported the traffic to the fll tower as crossing the localizer northbound and the tower replied, 'we just got that information.' I believe the problem is that the other traffic entered the fll arsa from the south west/O clearance or the knowledge of the tower control. The other aircraft was later idented as an light transport and was based at fll.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC BETWEEN ACR-LGT AND LTT.
Narrative: ON APCH TO FLL RWY 9L AT 1500' MSL WHEN S/O CREW CALLED TFC AT 2:30 POS. PF FROM LEFT SEAT OBSERVED TFC AND TOOK EVASIVE ACTION BY INCREASING THE RATE OF DSCNT. OTHER TFC PASSED OVERHEAD WITHIN 500' ON A N HDG. F/O CREW RPTED THE TFC TO THE FLL TWR AS XING THE LOC NBOUND AND THE TWR REPLIED, 'WE JUST GOT THAT INFO.' I BELIEVE THE PROB IS THAT THE OTHER TFC ENTERED THE FLL ARSA FROM THE S W/O CLRNC OR THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TWR CTL. THE OTHER ACFT WAS LATER IDENTED AS AN LTT AND WAS BASED AT FLL.
