Narrative:

The aircraft I was flying was in a near collision incident with another aircraft that was VFR. We were cleared for the acton arrival into ft worth meacham (ftw). Approach cleared us down to 4000'. While at 4000' approach told us of traffic at our 2-3 O'clock position and 3 mi. I noticed an aircraft in the direction of the report and believed it to be a single engine (mfg type). I then told approach that I did see the traffic. Approach then cleared us for the visual approach to runway 34R. I acknowledged the clearance and reported descending out of 4000' for 2000'. Approach then issued a frequency change to meacham tower. I called the tower and reported that we were on a visual to runway 34R. Tower then told us to continue to the airport and to report abeam of downtown ft worth on final to 34R. I acknowledged the clearance and continued to the airport. We were level at 2000' when I turned final to 34R. All this time we had been looking for traffic but never saw any. It was a clear day and visibility was good. There were several aircraft on the frequency and tower was busy. Just after we turned final and were slowing to approach speed. Another aircraft reported that our type had just turned over them. This startled me and I began looking all around for traffic and did not see any. I didn't know which way to turn for fear of turning back over the traffic again. Just as I started to increase power to climb, the other aircraft Y flew out from under our left wing. It was a kit type plane and it was faster than we were. I turned to the right for additional spacing and continued to the airport. At this time the tower controller seemed confused as to our position. He asked if we were north of the field and I said no that we were on final to runway 34R and that another aircraft had just flown under our left wing. He then cleared aircraft Y to land on the left runway and cleared us to land on the right. I reported the incident to ft worth flight service and the following thurs the incident was in ft worth local newspaper. I'm not certain, but I suspect that there was more than one other VFR aircraft inbound to ftw from the south and I was only told about one of them. Also, I don't understand the confusion on the part of the controller as to our position. I feel that somewhere there was confusion on the handoff from approach or perhaps the controller confused us with someone else, as possibly an overflying aircraft. I also don't understand why the reported incident was put in the paper. Never the less we were within 100' of another aircraft on final for the same runway and it doesn't make this pilot feel very comfortable. I'm sure the controller feels the same way.

Title: NMAC BETWEEN CORP TWIN AND SMALL HOMEBUILT ACFT ON FINAL TO RWY.

Narrative: THE ACFT I WAS FLYING WAS IN A NEAR COLLISION INCIDENT WITH ANOTHER ACFT THAT WAS VFR. WE WERE CLRED FOR THE ACTON ARR INTO FT WORTH MEACHAM (FTW). APCH CLRED US DOWN TO 4000'. WHILE AT 4000' APCH TOLD US OF TFC AT OUR 2-3 O'CLOCK POS AND 3 MI. I NOTICED AN ACFT IN THE DIRECTION OF THE RPT AND BELIEVED IT TO BE A SINGLE ENG (MFG TYPE). I THEN TOLD APCH THAT I DID SEE THE TFC. APCH THEN CLRED US FOR THE VISUAL APCH TO RWY 34R. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC AND RPTED DSNDING OUT OF 4000' FOR 2000'. APCH THEN ISSUED A FREQ CHANGE TO MEACHAM TWR. I CALLED THE TWR AND RPTED THAT WE WERE ON A VISUAL TO RWY 34R. TWR THEN TOLD US TO CONTINUE TO THE ARPT AND TO RPT ABEAM OF DOWNTOWN FT WORTH ON FINAL TO 34R. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC AND CONTINUED TO THE ARPT. WE WERE LEVEL AT 2000' WHEN I TURNED FINAL TO 34R. ALL THIS TIME WE HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR TFC BUT NEVER SAW ANY. IT WAS A CLEAR DAY AND VIS WAS GOOD. THERE WERE SEVERAL ACFT ON THE FREQ AND TWR WAS BUSY. JUST AFTER WE TURNED FINAL AND WERE SLOWING TO APCH SPD. ANOTHER ACFT RPTED THAT OUR TYPE HAD JUST TURNED OVER THEM. THIS STARTLED ME AND I BEGAN LOOKING ALL AROUND FOR TFC AND DID NOT SEE ANY. I DIDN'T KNOW WHICH WAY TO TURN FOR FEAR OF TURNING BACK OVER THE TFC AGAIN. JUST AS I STARTED TO INCREASE PWR TO CLB, THE OTHER ACFT Y FLEW OUT FROM UNDER OUR LEFT WING. IT WAS A KIT TYPE PLANE AND IT WAS FASTER THAN WE WERE. I TURNED TO THE RIGHT FOR ADDITIONAL SPACING AND CONTINUED TO THE ARPT. AT THIS TIME THE TWR CTLR SEEMED CONFUSED AS TO OUR POS. HE ASKED IF WE WERE N OF THE FIELD AND I SAID NO THAT WE WERE ON FINAL TO RWY 34R AND THAT ANOTHER ACFT HAD JUST FLOWN UNDER OUR LEFT WING. HE THEN CLRED ACFT Y TO LAND ON THE LEFT RWY AND CLRED US TO LAND ON THE RIGHT. I RPTED THE INCIDENT TO FT WORTH FLT SVC AND THE FOLLOWING THURS THE INCIDENT WAS IN FT WORTH LCL NEWSPAPER. I'M NOT CERTAIN, BUT I SUSPECT THAT THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE OTHER VFR ACFT INBND TO FTW FROM THE S AND I WAS ONLY TOLD ABOUT ONE OF THEM. ALSO, I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CONFUSION ON THE PART OF THE CTLR AS TO OUR POS. I FEEL THAT SOMEWHERE THERE WAS CONFUSION ON THE HDOF FROM APCH OR PERHAPS THE CTLR CONFUSED US WITH SOMEONE ELSE, AS POSSIBLY AN OVERFLYING ACFT. I ALSO DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE RPTED INCIDENT WAS PUT IN THE PAPER. NEVER THE LESS WE WERE WITHIN 100' OF ANOTHER ACFT ON FINAL FOR THE SAME RWY AND IT DOESN'T MAKE THIS PLT FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE. I'M SURE THE CTLR FEELS THE SAME WAY.
