Narrative:
Flight attendants were seated during take-off; possible turbulence. We were about 15 minutes into the flight when we felt and heard the engine noise (later described as an engine surge). The captain called; told us we were going back to our departure airport. No time to do a planned emergency list. We landed heavy due to the fuel. The runway was wet. Flight attendants were preparing (in our heads) for a possible evacuation which did not happen. Passengers stayed seated after landing and there was no chaos. We did land safely.
