Narrative:
We departed gate and received clearance from bos ground control to taxi to runway 9 via the south outer and sierra txwys to hold short of runway 4L. We taxied as cleared, stopping at least once on the south outer before holding short of runway 4L for about 5 mins before being cleared to cross runway 4L. At that time we were #3 or #4 for takeoff on runway 9. Ground control called us before takeoff to ask our aircraft number (west/O explanation). After takeoff departure control requested that I telephone the bos tower and ask for FAA supervisor when we land in dca (west/O explanation). I called as requested and was told that my jet blast had damaged a light aircraft wing tip propeller struck the ground. Throughout the taxi I applied only enough power to start my aircraft moving, then returned to idle power, well within normal operating limits. GA pilots must be made aware of the danger of jet blast and that the danger area extends several hundred feet behind the jet aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PIC OF ACR MLG ACCUSED OF CAUSING JET BLAST DAMAGE TO AN SMA AS ACFT TAXIED OUT FOR TKOF AT BOS. PROBLEM WAS NOT OBSERVED BY THE FLT CREW.
Narrative: WE DEPARTED GATE AND RECEIVED CLRNC FROM BOS GND CTL TO TAXI TO RWY 9 VIA THE S OUTER AND SIERRA TXWYS TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 4L. WE TAXIED AS CLRED, STOPPING AT LEAST ONCE ON THE S OUTER BEFORE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 4L FOR ABOUT 5 MINS BEFORE BEING CLRED TO CROSS RWY 4L. AT THAT TIME WE WERE #3 OR #4 FOR TKOF ON RWY 9. GND CTL CALLED US BEFORE TKOF TO ASK OUR ACFT NUMBER (W/O EXPLANATION). AFTER TKOF DEP CTL REQUESTED THAT I TELEPHONE THE BOS TWR AND ASK FOR FAA SUPVR WHEN WE LAND IN DCA (W/O EXPLANATION). I CALLED AS REQUESTED AND WAS TOLD THAT MY JET BLAST HAD DAMAGED A LIGHT ACFT WING TIP PROP STRUCK THE GND. THROUGHOUT THE TAXI I APPLIED ONLY ENOUGH PWR TO START MY ACFT MOVING, THEN RETURNED TO IDLE PWR, WELL WITHIN NORMAL OPERATING LIMITS. GA PLTS MUST BE MADE AWARE OF THE DANGER OF JET BLAST AND THAT THE DANGER AREA EXTENDS SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET BEHIND THE JET ACFT.
