Narrative:
At approximately XA49Z in the vicinity of daybo intersection on the daisetta 7 arrival into iah, assigned heading 230 degree to intercept runway 26 localizer crs, descending thru 5200' MSL to assigned altitude of 4000' MSL. We encountered an aircraft who appeared at 11 O'clock position. The aircraft was at our approximately altitude and northbound, passing slowly across the windshield from left to right. Evasive action was necessary and we pulled the nose up to break our descent and climbed about 200' before resuming our descent. We identified the aircraft to be an orange and white small aircraft and estimate that the small aircraft passed 100-200' directly beneath us. Houston approach advised us that they did not have the small aircraft on radar and did not know his identity. An aircraft immediately behind us confirmed to iah approach control the presence of a northbound small aircraft at approximately 5000'.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC BETWEEN ACR LGT AND GA SMA.
Narrative: AT APPROX XA49Z IN THE VICINITY OF DAYBO INTXN ON THE DAISETTA 7 ARR INTO IAH, ASSIGNED HDG 230 DEG TO INTERCEPT RWY 26 LOC CRS, DSNDING THRU 5200' MSL TO ASSIGNED ALT OF 4000' MSL. WE ENCOUNTERED AN ACFT WHO APPEARED AT 11 O'CLOCK POS. THE ACFT WAS AT OUR APPROX ALT AND NBND, PASSING SLOWLY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD FROM L TO R. EVASIVE ACTION WAS NECESSARY AND WE PULLED THE NOSE UP TO BREAK OUR DSCNT AND CLBED ABOUT 200' BEFORE RESUMING OUR DSCNT. WE IDENTIFIED THE ACFT TO BE AN ORANGE AND WHITE SMA AND ESTIMATE THAT THE SMA PASSED 100-200' DIRECTLY BENEATH US. HOUSTON APCH ADVISED US THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE SMA ON RADAR AND DID NOT KNOW HIS IDENTITY. AN ACFT IMMEDIATELY BEHIND US CONFIRMED TO IAH APCH CTL THE PRESENCE OF A NBOUND SMA AT APPROX 5000'.
