Narrative:
ATC clearance was received from atl clearance delivery as cleared atl 9 as filed, squawk, filed clearance is below, atl J91 cty fmy mia. Aircraft departed atl at XA19 and was vectored by atl departure control, cleared to 14000', heading 180 degrees, then cleared to heading 200 degrees to J43 flight plan route, contact ZTL. We inadvertently intercepted J91 from atl VOR which was our filed clearance as received from clearance delivery. ZTL then contacted the flight and inquired as to the clearance that we had received, and then reclred the flight to turn right to intercept J43, then reclred the flight to direct to tlh J43 pie direct fmy direct mia, maintain FL330. The large vol of communications and the vectors to a non specific point off the filed route may have caused the misinterp of the ATC clearance. It may be helpful to clear aircraft to a specific fix from the departure airport that may raise a flag if it is not on the route that the aircraft had been cleared on. Supplemental information from acn 97224: we misunderstood the clearance and proceeded to fly the filed route J91, not J43.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR LGT GIVEN ROUTE CHANGE BY DEP INTERCEPTED ORIGINAL CLEARED AIRWAY INSTEAD OF RECLEARED AIRWAY.
Narrative: ATC CLRNC WAS RECEIVED FROM ATL CLRNC DELIVERY AS CLRED ATL 9 AS FILED, SQUAWK, FILED CLRNC IS BELOW, ATL J91 CTY FMY MIA. ACFT DEPARTED ATL AT XA19 AND WAS VECTORED BY ATL DEP CTL, CLRED TO 14000', HDG 180 DEGS, THEN CLRED TO HDG 200 DEGS TO J43 FLT PLAN ROUTE, CONTACT ZTL. WE INADVERTENTLY INTERCEPTED J91 FROM ATL VOR WHICH WAS OUR FILED CLRNC AS RECEIVED FROM CLRNC DELIVERY. ZTL THEN CONTACTED THE FLT AND INQUIRED AS TO THE CLRNC THAT WE HAD RECEIVED, AND THEN RECLRED THE FLT TO TURN RIGHT TO INTERCEPT J43, THEN RECLRED THE FLT TO DIRECT TO TLH J43 PIE DIRECT FMY DIRECT MIA, MAINTAIN FL330. THE LARGE VOL OF COMS AND THE VECTORS TO A NON SPECIFIC POINT OFF THE FILED ROUTE MAY HAVE CAUSED THE MISINTERP OF THE ATC CLRNC. IT MAY BE HELPFUL TO CLR ACFT TO A SPECIFIC FIX FROM THE DEP ARPT THAT MAY RAISE A FLAG IF IT IS NOT ON THE ROUTE THAT THE ACFT HAD BEEN CLRED ON. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 97224: WE MISUNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC AND PROCEEDED TO FLY THE FILED ROUTE J91, NOT J43.
