Narrative:
Pomona 2 SID, ontario, on climb out, first officer (me), continued flying 255 degree hg instead of flying (intercepting) pomona 114 degree right. Controller had us stop climbing at 8500' and turned us to intercept 294 degree right of pomona. First officer (me) got locked onto 255 degree heading because so frequently we are given headings to fly to intercept. We were given our clearance to '255 degree heading, pomona 2, gorman, as filed 12000', expect FL390, 10 mins later.' departure frequency 125.5, squawk, speed 250 KTS. This was read back on being cleared for to, again, heading of 255 degrees, nothing said about pomona 2 departure. At a point where we would have turned we were given traffic to look for, but did not see. We continued to fly the 255 degree heading. It was not said to fly the departure, so I didn't! Supplemental information from acn 99963: I believe that the lack of communication between the pilots about the departure itself and the anticipated aircraft's performance for this takeoff contributed to the deviation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE SID.
Narrative: POMONA 2 SID, ONTARIO, ON CLBOUT, F/O (ME), CONTINUED FLYING 255 DEG HG INSTEAD OF FLYING (INTERCEPTING) POMONA 114 DEG R. CTLR HAD US STOP CLBING AT 8500' AND TURNED US TO INTERCEPT 294 DEG R OF POMONA. F/O (ME) GOT LOCKED ONTO 255 DEG HDG BECAUSE SO FREQUENTLY WE ARE GIVEN HDGS TO FLY TO INTERCEPT. WE WERE GIVEN OUR CLRNC TO '255 DEG HDG, POMONA 2, GORMAN, AS FILED 12000', EXPECT FL390, 10 MINS LATER.' DEP FREQ 125.5, SQUAWK, SPD 250 KTS. THIS WAS READ BACK ON BEING CLRED FOR TO, AGAIN, HDG OF 255 DEGS, NOTHING SAID ABOUT POMONA 2 DEP. AT A POINT WHERE WE WOULD HAVE TURNED WE WERE GIVEN TFC TO LOOK FOR, BUT DID NOT SEE. WE CONTINUED TO FLY THE 255 DEG HDG. IT WAS NOT SAID TO FLY THE DEP, SO I DIDN'T! SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 99963: I BELIEVE THAT THE LACK OF COM BTWN THE PLTS ABOUT THE DEP ITSELF AND THE ANTICIPATED ACFT'S PERFORMANCE FOR THIS TKOF CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEVIATION.
