Narrative:
Was given crossing restriction on a direct route to ffu VOR cross 10 north at 170/250 KTS. They were shooting approachs to slc in limited visibility. Hence center was slowing aircraft and delay vectoring other aircraft. We started our descent checklist to get the talking out of the way so as not to miss any radio calls. This was at 20000'. We reset altimeter to slc setting 3046 set decision ht and radio altimeters and discussed map. Right after this center gave us a heading and changed descent clearance to FL190. We stopped descent at FL190 and discovered our wrong altimeter setting showing us around 18600'. At about same time center said we were at wrong altitude and had us descend to FL180. We set altimeters to proper settings and continued on into slc. In our hurry to avoid problems we created a few for ourselves.

Title: ALT DEVIATION, WRONG ALTIMETER SETTING.
Narrative: WAS GIVEN XING RESTRICTION ON A DIRECT ROUTE TO FFU VOR CROSS 10 N AT 170/250 KTS. THEY WERE SHOOTING APCHS TO SLC IN LIMITED VISIBILITY. HENCE CENTER WAS SLOWING ACFT AND DELAY VECTORING OTHER ACFT. WE STARTED OUR DSCNT CHKLIST TO GET THE TALKING OUT OF THE WAY SO AS NOT TO MISS ANY RADIO CALLS. THIS WAS AT 20000'. WE RESET ALTIMETER TO SLC SETTING 3046 SET DECISION HT AND RADIO ALTIMETERS AND DISCUSSED MAP. RIGHT AFTER THIS CENTER GAVE US A HDG AND CHANGED DSCNT CLRNC TO FL190. WE STOPPED DSCNT AT FL190 AND DISCOVERED OUR WRONG ALTIMETER SETTING SHOWING US AROUND 18600'. AT ABOUT SAME TIME CENTER SAID WE WERE AT WRONG ALT AND HAD US DSND TO FL180. WE SET ALTIMETERS TO PROPER SETTINGS AND CONTINUED ON INTO SLC. IN OUR HURRY TO AVOID PROBS WE CREATED A FEW FOR OURSELVES.
