Narrative:
Following rotation and commencement of climb, while landing gear was in transit up, the forward cabin door (right side) popped open. I advised the local controller that door open and that aircraft would land on remaining runway (total runway available on 26L is 10,000'). I then moved gear handle down and commenced landing. Apparently the gear failed to deploy and a gear up landing occurred. The cabin door had been secured and checked as locked prior to takeoff. I have experienced a few door openings previously, but never with as much remaining runway to which I could return, so previous incidents were handled by going around the traffic pattern to land and reclose door. I do not know why the landing gear failed to deploy. During the gear up landing the cabin developed electric smelling smoke.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMT HAD DOOR POP OPEN ON TKOF. PLT ATTEMPTED LNDG ON REMAINDER OF RWY. GEAR DID NOT DEPLOY.
Narrative: FOLLOWING ROTATION AND COMMENCEMENT OF CLIMB, WHILE LNDG GEAR WAS IN TRANSIT UP, THE FORWARD CABIN DOOR (RIGHT SIDE) POPPED OPEN. I ADVISED THE LCL CTLR THAT DOOR OPEN AND THAT ACFT WOULD LAND ON REMAINING RWY (TOTAL RWY AVAILABLE ON 26L IS 10,000'). I THEN MOVED GEAR HANDLE DOWN AND COMMENCED LNDG. APPARENTLY THE GEAR FAILED TO DEPLOY AND A GEAR UP LNDG OCCURRED. THE CABIN DOOR HAD BEEN SECURED AND CHECKED AS LOCKED PRIOR TO TKOF. I HAVE EXPERIENCED A FEW DOOR OPENINGS PREVIOUSLY, BUT NEVER WITH AS MUCH REMAINING RWY TO WHICH I COULD RETURN, SO PREVIOUS INCIDENTS WERE HANDLED BY GOING AROUND THE TFC PATTERN TO LAND AND RECLOSE DOOR. I DO NOT KNOW WHY THE LNDG GEAR FAILED TO DEPLOY. DURING THE GEAR UP LNDG THE CABIN DEVELOPED ELECTRIC SMELLING SMOKE.
