Narrative:
On landing rollout at 110 KIAS, tower advised, 'turn right at the next high speed, traffic in position and on 2 1/2 mi final.' we advised, 'unable,' and continued to the next turnoff. Tower advised the aircraft in position to taxi down the runway and exit the runway immediately to avoid a go around by the aircraft on final. If tower had advised us as to minimum time on the runway, we could have planned better to accommodate ATC. While taxiing back nebnd on taxiway west, as we approached taxiway intersection W3, ground control advised us to follow an medium large transport aircraft clearing 21L at W3. We had to stop very abruptly to do this and allow just enough room for the medium large transport to clear the runway in front of us. There was another aircraft on short final that would have had to go around if we were unable to stop in time to allow the medium large transport to clear the runway. The basic problem with dtw is trying to squeeze traffic to move as many aircraft as possible. No planning information is given to the pilots. Controllers are rushing pilots. The ground control situation is still very confusing and another accident could result. For now, my suggestion is to have the controllers slow things up a bit, even at the expense of accommodating less traffic.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LGT UNABLE MAKE LAST MINUTE TURN OFF AT HIGH SPEED PER TWR INSTRUCTIONS. LATER HAD TO MAKE ABRUPT STOP ON TXWY TO ALLOW AN MLG TO LEAVE RWY TO AVOID GO AROUND BY CLOSE IN JET.
Narrative: ON LNDG ROLLOUT AT 110 KIAS, TWR ADVISED, 'TURN RIGHT AT THE NEXT HIGH SPD, TFC IN POS AND ON 2 1/2 MI FINAL.' WE ADVISED, 'UNABLE,' AND CONTINUED TO THE NEXT TURNOFF. TWR ADVISED THE ACFT IN POS TO TAXI DOWN THE RWY AND EXIT THE RWY IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID A GAR BY THE ACFT ON FINAL. IF TWR HAD ADVISED US AS TO MINIMUM TIME ON THE RWY, WE COULD HAVE PLANNED BETTER TO ACCOMMODATE ATC. WHILE TAXIING BACK NEBND ON TXWY W, AS WE APCHED TXWY INTXN W3, GND CTL ADVISED US TO FOLLOW AN MLG ACFT CLRING 21L AT W3. WE HAD TO STOP VERY ABRUPTLY TO DO THIS AND ALLOW JUST ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE MLG TO CLR THE RWY IN FRONT OF US. THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT ON SHORT FINAL THAT WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO AROUND IF WE WERE UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME TO ALLOW THE MLG TO CLR THE RWY. THE BASIC PROB WITH DTW IS TRYING TO SQUEEZE TFC TO MOVE AS MANY ACFT AS POSSIBLE. NO PLANNING INFO IS GIVEN TO THE PLTS. CTLRS ARE RUSHING PLTS. THE GND CTL SITUATION IS STILL VERY CONFUSING AND ANOTHER ACCIDENT COULD RESULT. FOR NOW, MY SUGGESTION IS TO HAVE THE CTLRS SLOW THINGS UP A BIT, EVEN AT THE EXPENSE OF ACCOMMODATING LESS TFC.
