Narrative:

I was the first officer on a commuter flight between st louis, mo, and springfield, il. The WX at spi was VMC and we were cleared to land on runway 22. It was the capts leg, the fifth that day, and I was handling the radios. As we xed the threshold the tower cleared an small transport into position. Over all traffic seemed slow at springfield. On our roll out the tower told us to do 'a 180' and hold short of runway 30. I read the clearance back as the captain immediately started turning the plane around. Our position on runway was such that once turned around we were approximately 50' from the intersection of the 2 runways. As we were turning around the tower cleared an small transport into position on runway 30. I believe the controller intended to depart the small transport before crossing us. As we approached about 10' from the intersection, I realized the captain wasn't going to stop. I immediately stated, 'stop'. He continued, so I jumped on the brakes, but by the time I had any slowing effect we were already out onto the runway. I then released the brakes and the captain taxied clear of the runway. The tower immediately asked us if we understood his instructions. I hesitated to answer and then said, 'I guess we both didn't get it straight.' after contacting ground and taxiing to the gate the captain called the tower back and apologized for the confusion. I asked the captain what he was thinking they told us. He thought that because the small transport was in position they needed us to clear fast and didn't realize we were crossing the other runway. As far as how this could be prevented in the future I feel that the captain and myself could have coordination a little better. I'm fairly new at this airline and had only flown with this captain once before. I feel that because he knew I was new he may not have put as much trust in my judgement as he could have. When I said, 'stop' he shouldn't have questioned it. In addition, the tower also may have been able to see our position and realized that once we made a 180 degree that close to the intersection, we may go through.

Title: COMMUTER LTT UNAUTH RWY CROSSING AT SPI.

Narrative: I WAS THE F/O ON A COMMUTER FLT BTWN ST LOUIS, MO, AND SPRINGFIELD, IL. THE WX AT SPI WAS VMC AND WE WERE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 22. IT WAS THE CAPTS LEG, THE FIFTH THAT DAY, AND I WAS HANDLING THE RADIOS. AS WE XED THE THRESHOLD THE TWR CLRED AN SMT INTO POS. OVER ALL TFC SEEMED SLOW AT SPRINGFIELD. ON OUR ROLL OUT THE TWR TOLD US TO DO 'A 180' AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 30. I READ THE CLRNC BACK AS THE CAPT IMMEDIATELY STARTED TURNING THE PLANE AROUND. OUR POS ON RWY WAS SUCH THAT ONCE TURNED AROUND WE WERE APPROX 50' FROM THE INTXN OF THE 2 RWYS. AS WE WERE TURNING AROUND THE TWR CLRED AN SMT INTO POS ON RWY 30. I BELIEVE THE CTLR INTENDED TO DEPART THE SMT BEFORE XING US. AS WE APCHED ABOUT 10' FROM THE INTXN, I REALIZED THE CAPT WASN'T GOING TO STOP. I IMMEDIATELY STATED, 'STOP'. HE CONTINUED, SO I JUMPED ON THE BRAKES, BUT BY THE TIME I HAD ANY SLOWING EFFECT WE WERE ALREADY OUT ONTO THE RWY. I THEN RELEASED THE BRAKES AND THE CAPT TAXIED CLR OF THE RWY. THE TWR IMMEDIATELY ASKED US IF WE UNDERSTOOD HIS INSTRUCTIONS. I HESITATED TO ANSWER AND THEN SAID, 'I GUESS WE BOTH DIDN'T GET IT STRAIGHT.' AFTER CONTACTING GND AND TAXIING TO THE GATE THE CAPT CALLED THE TWR BACK AND APOLOGIZED FOR THE CONFUSION. I ASKED THE CAPT WHAT HE WAS THINKING THEY TOLD US. HE THOUGHT THAT BECAUSE THE SMT WAS IN POS THEY NEEDED US TO CLR FAST AND DIDN'T REALIZE WE WERE XING THE OTHER RWY. AS FAR AS HOW THIS COULD BE PREVENTED IN THE FUTURE I FEEL THAT THE CAPT AND MYSELF COULD HAVE COORD A LITTLE BETTER. I'M FAIRLY NEW AT THIS AIRLINE AND HAD ONLY FLOWN WITH THIS CAPT ONCE BEFORE. I FEEL THAT BECAUSE HE KNEW I WAS NEW HE MAY NOT HAVE PUT AS MUCH TRUST IN MY JUDGEMENT AS HE COULD HAVE. WHEN I SAID, 'STOP' HE SHOULDN'T HAVE QUESTIONED IT. IN ADDITION, THE TWR ALSO MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE OUR POS AND REALIZED THAT ONCE WE MADE A 180 DEG THAT CLOSE TO THE INTXN, WE MAY GO THROUGH.
