Narrative:
Taxiing flight into gate at atl. Jetway was improperly positioned preventing us from taxiing to normal medium large transport stop point. Ramp agent at nose of aircraft indicated we didn't have enough clearance. Shortly after, stop light operator changed stop light from green to red. Gate agent repositioned jetway clear of aircraft path. At that time, ramp agent at nose of aircraft gave come ahead signal and stop light operator changed light from red to green. Started aircraft moving forward, shortly after which ramp agent gave emergency stop signal and light operator changed light from green to red. Immediately applied brakes. Never felt any impact, but hit fuel truck with right wing, denting leading edge device. Only #1 engine was running, anti-collision light was on during entire sequence. No known injuries to passengers or company employees. Recommendation: no ground service equipment should approach an aircraft until the engines have been shut down and the anti-collision light has been turned out.
