Narrative:
Level at 3000 ft while being vectored for a visual approach to runway 24 at islip airport our TCASII showed an aircraft at 12 O'clock and 500 ft above us. The TCASII issued an RA and commanded us to descend. We went down to approximately 2600 ft and advised ATC of our actions. ATC advised us he showed no traffic. Soon after, the TCASII indicated the conflicting aircraft had passed over us. We never visually saw the aircraft.
