Narrative:
At 21000 ft on the buzzy 5 arrival into rdu, we thought that center should have given us a descent by buzzy intersection. We heard center transmissions and responses so we hadn't lost ATC communication. We queried ATC and got no response after 5 attempts. We switched over to rdu approach (whose frequency we received off of approach plates) and established contact with them. Approach asked us how we got their frequency and what the last center frequency was. We descended and were vectored without further incident into rdu on an ILS runway 23L. All other communications and flight normal.
