Cleared for river 18 visual. TCASII advisory 'traffic' followed by 'climb, crossing traffic.' TCASII indicated minimum 2000 FPM climb. Began climb at 3700 ft (approximately), climbed to 4500 ft. Clear of conflict. Resumed approach without further incident. ATC never advised of any traffic. Never saw target visually.

Narrative: CLRED FOR RIVER 18 VISUAL. TCASII ADVISORY 'TFC' FOLLOWED BY 'CLB, XING TFC.' TCASII INDICATED MINIMUM 2000 FPM CLB. BEGAN CLB AT 3700 FT (APPROX), CLBED TO 4500 FT. CLR OF CONFLICT. RESUMED APCH WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. ATC NEVER ADVISED OF ANY TFC. NEVER SAW TARGET VISUALLY.
