Narrative:
I landed at white plains, ny, on runway 16. We taxied to hangar 6 pad for holding, then returned to gate to deplane the passenger. The aft flight attendants called and said they heard a loud 'bang' while we were taxiing. During the walkaround, the horizontal stabilizer on the right side was found to be damaged. I rode out to the parking area and found an area of asphalt approximately 8 ft by 8 ft by 1/2 inch missing. I returned to the aircraft where stairs had been put up to the right side of the horizontal stabilizer. A piece of asphalt approximately 1 square ft was found on top of the stabilizer. In addition to the damage to the leading edge there was a puncture hole on top of the elevator and a hole on the right side of the vertical stabilizer just above and aft of the pitot tube. The aircraft was then grounded by company maintenance. Supplemental information from acn 244441: the ramp area was found to be of old, cracked, repaired asphalt. This airport does not seem equipped, adequate, or maintained for large jet air carrier operations.
