Narrative:

Descending from 8400 MSL to 7400 MSL south of abq, night VMC. Field in sight and cleared right turn and descent to 7400 MSL to turn final to runway 35. At 8000 MSL, GPWS gave us 'terrain, terrain' call. We immediately initiated a straight climb to 8300 ft MSL, noting our radio altimeters had registered 600 ft AGL. We maintained 8300 ft northbound toward field and advised approach control. ATC confirmed MSA and MVA and also noted that another air carrier earlier had reported a similar GPWS event although well clear of terrain. At 8300 ft MSL and 1 mi south of the field itself (level flight) we received another GPWS 'terrain, terrain' command and radio altimeters were descending through 600 ft AGL. We advised tower of the second event. The aircraft equipment checked normal, suspect possibility of outside interference (from kirtland air force base?) with radio altimeter frequencys.

Title: AN ACR MLG CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A GPWS TERRAIN WARNING.

Narrative: DSNDING FROM 8400 MSL TO 7400 MSL S OF ABQ, NIGHT VMC. FIELD IN SIGHT AND CLRED R TURN AND DSCNT TO 7400 MSL TO TURN FINAL TO RWY 35. AT 8000 MSL, GPWS GAVE US 'TERRAIN, TERRAIN' CALL. WE IMMEDIATELY INITIATED A STRAIGHT CLB TO 8300 FT MSL, NOTING OUR RADIO ALTIMETERS HAD REGISTERED 600 FT AGL. WE MAINTAINED 8300 FT NBOUND TOWARD FIELD AND ADVISED APCH CTL. ATC CONFIRMED MSA AND MVA AND ALSO NOTED THAT ANOTHER ACR EARLIER HAD RPTED A SIMILAR GPWS EVENT ALTHOUGH WELL CLR OF TERRAIN. AT 8300 FT MSL AND 1 MI S OF THE FIELD ITSELF (LEVEL FLT) WE RECEIVED ANOTHER GPWS 'TERRAIN, TERRAIN' COMMAND AND RADIO ALTIMETERS WERE DSNDING THROUGH 600 FT AGL. WE ADVISED TWR OF THE SECOND EVENT. THE ACFT EQUIP CHKED NORMAL, SUSPECT POSSIBILITY OF OUTSIDE INTERFERENCE (FROM KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE?) WITH RADIO ALTIMETER FREQS.
