Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff during climb out #1 engine experienced immediate catastrophic failure. We declared an emergency to departure control. Departure control gave immediate downwind vectors with deviations as necessary for a visual approach to runway 25R at lax or any runway of our choice. Tower cleared our landing. During the time between engine failure and landing, all emergency procedures were accomplished and landing checklist completed. After crash fire rescue equipment examined the aircraft, we taxied to gate uneventfully. No further damage to aircraft and no injuries to passenger or crew.
