Narrative:

Scheduled trip to denver, co, with crew and 2 passenger. Long runway closed for construction leaving runway 5/23 for all operations. Takeoff data for nonstop to denver required runway length of 4700 ft with 5100 ft available on runway 5. With heavy rain present at time of departure, I thought it would be prudent to use the southwest overrun to add a safety cushion to the takeoff. After a call to the tower 1 hour prior to departure (phone call) and a crew brief, we elected to use the overrun. Passenger arrived. We taxied to runway 5, was given takeoff clearance. Back tracked down the overrun, applied takeoff power, released the brakes and departed. Tower advised after takeoff that we had blown down 50 ft of fence with engine thrust. Fence at threshold of runway overrun made of wood (not a blast fence). 1 piece of wood hit a passing automatic leaving small dent in car. Overrun had chevrons making it unusable for takeoff. Crew should have pulled aim before takeoff. Would have saved embarrassment.
