Narrative:
Flight sep/xx/94 cleared to taxi to runway 34L (sea) on taxiway 'P,' which entered runway 34L about 500 ft north of approach end of runway. After holding short we were cleared into position. At this time, we back taxied to the end (tower had said there would be a short delay in position). Tower then said that the portion of the runway we were on was closed. We rechked the ATIS, NOTAMS, release, etc, but nothing mentioned that portion of the runway was closed. The ATIS mentioned taxiway Q was closed, and that the runway had so many feet available from taxiway 'P.' there were no markings, or displaced threshold on the supposed closed runway section. I would recommend that if a portion was closed, it should be noted in no uncertain terms, ie, 'full length of runway 34L not available for takeoffs and lndgs' on the ATIS.

Title: GND HOLDING POS QUESTIONED BY TWR CTLR AFTER ACR MLG TAXI ONTO CLOSED PORTION OF RWY FOR TKOF.
Narrative: FLT SEP/XX/94 CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 34L (SEA) ON TXWY 'P,' WHICH ENTERED RWY 34L ABOUT 500 FT N OF APCH END OF RWY. AFTER HOLDING SHORT WE WERE CLRED INTO POS. AT THIS TIME, WE BACK TAXIED TO THE END (TWR HAD SAID THERE WOULD BE A SHORT DELAY IN POS). TWR THEN SAID THAT THE PORTION OF THE RWY WE WERE ON WAS CLOSED. WE RECHKED THE ATIS, NOTAMS, RELEASE, ETC, BUT NOTHING MENTIONED THAT PORTION OF THE RWY WAS CLOSED. THE ATIS MENTIONED TXWY Q WAS CLOSED, AND THAT THE RWY HAD SO MANY FEET AVAILABLE FROM TXWY 'P.' THERE WERE NO MARKINGS, OR DISPLACED THRESHOLD ON THE SUPPOSED CLOSED RWY SECTION. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT IF A PORTION WAS CLOSED, IT SHOULD BE NOTED IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, IE, 'FULL LENGTH OF RWY 34L NOT AVAILABLE FOR TKOFS AND LNDGS' ON THE ATIS.
