Narrative:
On approach into midway's runway 31L, flight was cleared to land on runway 31L. The approach continued normally until just crossing the threshold. I noticed 2 conical shaped beams of light on the overrun portion of runway 13L. I was unsure of the source of the light but reported. To the captain that there may have been an aircraft in position and hold. (On runway 31L) by this time there was no visible conflict and the landing continued normally. No strobes, anticollision, wing or TCASII was observed. On taxi-in the tower requested we call them. We then learned that they cleared a 737 into position and cleared us to land also.
