Narrative:
On the morning of jan/thu/95, at approximately XF55 local, we departed runway 7 at sba. Supposedly, the runway was closed until XG00 local. Runway closure was not heard on ATIS, no NOTAMS of the closed runway were indicated from our printer, the taxi and runway lights were on, there were no visible barriers or barricades. No vehicles with flashing lights were observed at anytime during taxi or takeoff. Landed at lax without incident. I feel better visible indications to let pilot know that the runway was closed would alleviate future problems (i.e., flashing lights on vehicles, runway lights off, barricades, taxi lights to runway off).
