Narrative:
Over charlotte VOR at 10000 ft, under clt approach control, we found ourselves being 'wedged' between 2 other aircraft. We got a TCASII RA which we followed, even though the controller told us to stay at 10000 ft. We only had to climb 300 ft and the RA was resolved. The first aircraft seen was a shorts 360, 800 ft above us descending. It passed off our left approximately 1500 ft horizontally. The second aircraft type was unknown. It was 300 ft below us and passed off to our right, very quickly, approximately 1 mi away. ATC advised us of the shorts and other, and immediately after we got the RA. We advised that we were getting an RA and climbing. He said to stay at 10000 ft. My company's procedure is to comply with the TCASII RA. So I did. Controller should have advised us sooner of conflicting traffic and have maintained greater separation for us.
