Narrative:
Busted crossing restr at druzz intersection. We were cleared to cross druzz at 11000 ft 250 KTS. I misread my chart and thought druzz was 41 DME, instead of 30 DME. At 28 DME the first officer asked if I was going to make the restr - no, we were then at 13000 ft 280 KTS. At that point center handed us off to approach and nothing was said. I think 3 factors contributed to the problem. I misread the chart. First officer was busy with PA, saying good bye to passenger, calling iad in range, and may have been distracted. An earlier call by the first officer (he was aware I was high) could have led to early action to increase the descent and make the restr. Funny thing - I covered this sort of thing in my crew briefing the first day of the trip.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ALT XING RESTR NOT MET. ALT DEV ALT UNDERSHOT IN DSCNT PROC. AIRSPD DEV.
Narrative: BUSTED XING RESTR AT DRUZZ INTXN. WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS DRUZZ AT 11000 FT 250 KTS. I MISREAD MY CHART AND THOUGHT DRUZZ WAS 41 DME, INSTEAD OF 30 DME. AT 28 DME THE FO ASKED IF I WAS GOING TO MAKE THE RESTR - NO, WE WERE THEN AT 13000 FT 280 KTS. AT THAT POINT CTR HANDED US OFF TO APCH AND NOTHING WAS SAID. I THINK 3 FACTORS CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROB. I MISREAD THE CHART. FO WAS BUSY WITH PA, SAYING GOOD BYE TO PAX, CALLING IAD IN RANGE, AND MAY HAVE BEEN DISTRACTED. AN EARLIER CALL BY THE FO (HE WAS AWARE I WAS HIGH) COULD HAVE LED TO EARLY ACTION TO INCREASE THE DSCNT AND MAKE THE RESTR. FUNNY THING - I COVERED THIS SORT OF THING IN MY CREW BRIEFING THE FIRST DAY OF THE TRIP.
