Narrative:
I was given a crossing restr at story intersection, cross story at 8000 ft. I had started down out of 12000 ft in plenty of time (and distance) to cross story at 8000 ft. However, as we got close to story, things started to get busy. The first officer was on the #2 radio with company, ATC gave us a frequency change, which I took care of, and we hit some turbulence. These things took my mind off the crossing restr. As I was slowing down because of the turbulence I had also slowed the descent rate. When I remembered the crossing restr it was too late. I crossed story 500-600 ft too high. Supplemental information from acn 304013: while approaching ord airport (at 12000 ft) on the pullman 3 arrival, we were instructed by ZAU to cross story intersection at 8000 ft. I checked in with ord approach and advised them that we were descending to 8000 ft. Then I gave approach frequency to the captain, and I started to listen/copy ATIS and run through our in-range and descent checklists. Upon completion of these tasks, I focused my attention to the navaids and altimeter. This is when I realized that we had passed story intersection and were still at 8600 ft. I brought this to the attention of the captain, he seemed to realize the situation as I spoke.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A COMMUTER AIRLINE FLC WAS DISTR BY TASKS, AND FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE ASSIGNED XING RESTR.
Narrative: I WAS GIVEN A XING RESTR AT STORY INTXN, CROSS STORY AT 8000 FT. I HAD STARTED DOWN OUT OF 12000 FT IN PLENTY OF TIME (AND DISTANCE) TO CROSS STORY AT 8000 FT. HOWEVER, AS WE GOT CLOSE TO STORY, THINGS STARTED TO GET BUSY. THE FO WAS ON THE #2 RADIO WITH COMPANY, ATC GAVE US A FREQ CHANGE, WHICH I TOOK CARE OF, AND WE HIT SOME TURB. THESE THINGS TOOK MY MIND OFF THE XING RESTR. AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN BECAUSE OF THE TURB I HAD ALSO SLOWED THE DSCNT RATE. WHEN I REMEMBERED THE XING RESTR IT WAS TOO LATE. I CROSSED STORY 500-600 FT TOO HIGH. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 304013: WHILE APCHING ORD ARPT (AT 12000 FT) ON THE PULLMAN 3 ARR, WE WERE INSTRUCTED BY ZAU TO CROSS STORY INTXN AT 8000 FT. I CHKED IN WITH ORD APCH AND ADVISED THEM THAT WE WERE DSNDING TO 8000 FT. THEN I GAVE APCH FREQ TO THE CAPT, AND I STARTED TO LISTEN/COPY ATIS AND RUN THROUGH OUR IN-RANGE AND DSCNT CHKLISTS. UPON COMPLETION OF THESE TASKS, I FOCUSED MY ATTN TO THE NAVAIDS AND ALTIMETER. THIS IS WHEN I REALIZED THAT WE HAD PASSED STORY INTXN AND WERE STILL AT 8600 FT. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTN OF THE CAPT, HE SEEMED TO REALIZE THE SIT AS I SPOKE.
