Narrative:
Plting a cessna 182 at night, I inadvertently penetrated a temporary flight restr set up around the united nations building. I had been unaware that there was a tfr in effect. This was because I failed to get a preflight briefing prior to the flight, which began and ended at frg. It was a clear, windless night -- perfect night VFR. I have made this flight (a 'tour' around manhattan) many times before. For that reason, I was complacent about the need for a briefing. However, I would like to note that neither I nor the FBO I fly with received any mailings advising of the plans for a tfr in manhattan. Had I received one, I doubt that I would have made this error. I believe it would be appropriate for all flight schools to re-emphasize the need for a preflight briefing even when conditions seem perfect and the planned flight is short.
