Narrative:
I was taxiing the aircraft while the first officer was working the radio and completing the required checklists. The instructions that we received were, 'taxi to runway 23R, hold short of runway 23L.' as we approached runway 10/28, we were instructed to taxi onto runway 10/28 and hold short of runway 23L. While stopped on runway 10/28, we were cleared to 'taxi into position and hold runway 23L.' I misunderstood the clearance and didn't hear the first officer's readback. I taxied onto runway 23R. The controller observed the error and stated, 'I see you're in position runway 23R, that will work, fly heading, and cleared for takeoff on runway 23R.' I accept responsibility for my error and am grateful that no conflict occurred but I think that certain factors contributed to it: 1) the runway layout of cleveland airport is confusing with hold short lines on runways and 3 runways crossing at one point, 2) the assigned runway was changed at the last min, 3) my failure to confirm any clearance before executing it was the main cause of the incident.

Title: COMMUTER ACFT TAXIES INTO POS ON WRONG RWY AT CLE.
Narrative: I WAS TAXIING THE ACFT WHILE THE FO WAS WORKING THE RADIO AND COMPLETING THE REQUIRED CHKLISTS. THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT WE RECEIVED WERE, 'TAXI TO RWY 23R, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 23L.' AS WE APCHED RWY 10/28, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI ONTO RWY 10/28 AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 23L. WHILE STOPPED ON RWY 10/28, WE WERE CLRED TO 'TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 23L.' I MISUNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC AND DIDN'T HEAR THE FO'S READBACK. I TAXIED ONTO RWY 23R. THE CTLR OBSERVED THE ERROR AND STATED, 'I SEE YOU'RE IN POS RWY 23R, THAT WILL WORK, FLY HEADING, AND CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 23R.' I ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY ERROR AND AM GRATEFUL THAT NO CONFLICT OCCURRED BUT I THINK THAT CERTAIN FACTORS CONTRIBUTED TO IT: 1) THE RWY LAYOUT OF CLEVELAND ARPT IS CONFUSING WITH HOLD SHORT LINES ON RWYS AND 3 RWYS XING AT ONE POINT, 2) THE ASSIGNED RWY WAS CHANGED AT THE LAST MIN, 3) MY FAILURE TO CONFIRM ANY CLRNC BEFORE EXECUTING IT WAS THE MAIN CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT.
