Narrative:
We were cleared for a visual approach to runway 26R at atlanta. We were told to contact the tower at the final approach fix which is approximately 5 mi from touchdown. The initial portion of the approach was high and fast, however, the final segment (1500 ft to touchdown) was stable. We didn't switch to atlanta tower until after touchdown. Tower cleared us to cross the parallel runway and told us to contact ground. No additional comments were made. Ldng without clearance probably occurred because the distraction of being high and fast. Supplemental information from acn 333756: approach told us at 10 mi to call the tower at the OM. We got distracted trying to keep visual spacing on the B757 and forgot to call the tower. We called them after landing and they said ok.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LANDED WITHOUT CLRNC. DISTR FROM BEING HIGH AND FAST ON APCH PLUS MAINTAINING VISUAL SEPARATION ON A B757.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 26R AT ATLANTA. WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT THE TWR AT THE FINAL APCH FIX WHICH IS APPROX 5 MI FROM TOUCHDOWN. THE INITIAL PORTION OF THE APCH WAS HIGH AND FAST, HOWEVER, THE FINAL SEGMENT (1500 FT TO TOUCHDOWN) WAS STABLE. WE DIDN'T SWITCH TO ATLANTA TWR UNTIL AFTER TOUCHDOWN. TWR CLRED US TO CROSS THE PARALLEL RWY AND TOLD US TO CONTACT GND. NO ADDITIONAL COMMENTS WERE MADE. LDNG WITHOUT CLRNC PROBABLY OCCURRED BECAUSE THE DISTR OF BEING HIGH AND FAST. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 333756: APCH TOLD US AT 10 MI TO CALL THE TWR AT THE OM. WE GOT DISTRACTED TRYING TO KEEP VISUAL SPACING ON THE B757 AND FORGOT TO CALL THE TWR. WE CALLED THEM AFTER LNDG AND THEY SAID OK.
