Narrative:
Assigned direct ehf ziggy 3 arrival out at FL290 center 128.37 amended clearance direct ptv ptv ziggy 3. I had ehf outbound 128 degree radial in my mind and even though I dialed in ptv I put the 128 degree course in lieu 147 degrees. Center caught the mistake and vectored us west back on the arrival. There were no distractions from inside or outside the cockpit. The first officer was very professional and alert. The mistake left us both shaken as to how and why we both made the error -- I even had verbalized the wrong outbound to the first officer and we both looked at the chart and saw what we wanted to see. Center was very courteous and said there was no separation problem, but I thought this was worth submitting. Charts out, frequency and outbound verbalized and crossed checked by 2 pilots and still a course deviation. I am humble and human.
