Narrative:
Assigned 2300 ft and in level flight when controller questioned altitude, he stated 'showing 1900 ft' and gave altimeter setting of 29.54 inches. We verified altimeter setting and reported indicating 2000 ft, and were instructed to and climbed back to 2300 ft. Cleared for and completed visual approach. No further abnormalities.
