Narrative:
Air carrier a flight cleared to las vegas approach control. Approach control directed us to follow a air carrier B jet. We called the visual on the air carrier B jet. Approach control then directed us to maintain visual separation with the air carrier B aircraft and were 'cleared for a visual approach to land on runway 25L.' flight reported left base for runway 25L and directed to land #2 behind air carrier B jet. Flight acknowledged cleared to land runway 25L. Remainder of flight was uneventful and taxied to park. Perception during taxi to park: although we acknowledged a clearance to land we were concerned as to whether we acknowledged an approach controller, tower controller, or if we had radio problems. Approach seemed to be busy with a air carrier heavy jet that was having some sort of problem behind us and the traffic pattern was busy. Actions: after blocking in the captain spoke with FAA tower controller ms F. The captain asked ms F if there were any problems with air carrier a radio xmissions. No problems were noted except that they had been very busy. The captain spoke with ms F again at approximately XX40Z after we rechked our radios. The captain again asked if there were any problems with air carrier a radios on approach control, tower, or clearance to land. She said there were no problems. Again she said that they (the tower) were very busy and had recent problems with some radio sensors around the field.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MLG ACR ACFT FOLLOWING APCH CTLR DIRECTIONS MAY HAVE MISUNDERSTOOD CLRNC AND LANDED WITHOUT CONTACTING TWR. FLC HEARD AND READ BACK THAT THEY WERE CLRED TO LAND AND APCH CTLR DIDN'T CORRECT THEM OR DIRECT THEM TO CONTACT TWR. BECAUSE THERE WAS AN APPARENT EMER IN PROGRESS THE TWR WAS VERY BUSY.
Narrative: ACR A FLT CLRED TO LAS VEGAS APCH CTL. APCH CTL DIRECTED US TO FOLLOW A ACR B JET. WE CALLED THE VISUAL ON THE ACR B JET. APCH CTL THEN DIRECTED US TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION WITH THE ACR B ACFT AND WERE 'CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO LAND ON RWY 25L.' FLT RPTED L BASE FOR RWY 25L AND DIRECTED TO LAND #2 BEHIND ACR B JET. FLT ACKNOWLEDGED CLRED TO LAND RWY 25L. REMAINDER OF FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL AND TAXIED TO PARK. PERCEPTION DURING TAXI TO PARK: ALTHOUGH WE ACKNOWLEDGED A CLRNC TO LAND WE WERE CONCERNED AS TO WHETHER WE ACKNOWLEDGED AN APCH CTLR, TWR CTLR, OR IF WE HAD RADIO PROBS. APCH SEEMED TO BE BUSY WITH A ACR HVY JET THAT WAS HAVING SOME SORT OF PROB BEHIND US AND THE TFC PATTERN WAS BUSY. ACTIONS: AFTER BLOCKING IN THE CAPT SPOKE WITH FAA TWR CTLR MS F. THE CAPT ASKED MS F IF THERE WERE ANY PROBS WITH ACR A RADIO XMISSIONS. NO PROBS WERE NOTED EXCEPT THAT THEY HAD BEEN VERY BUSY. THE CAPT SPOKE WITH MS F AGAIN AT APPROX XX40Z AFTER WE RECHKED OUR RADIOS. THE CAPT AGAIN ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY PROBS WITH ACR A RADIOS ON APCH CTL, TWR, OR CLRNC TO LAND. SHE SAID THERE WERE NO PROBS. AGAIN SHE SAID THAT THEY (THE TWR) WERE VERY BUSY AND HAD RECENT PROBS WITH SOME RADIO SENSORS AROUND THE FIELD.
