Narrative:
During landing roll aircraft began to shimmy wildly, brought aircraft to stop on runway and advised tower to alert emergency equipment. Appears torsion link-steering disengaged upon landing causing nosewheel to caster violently. Link was reinstalled and we advised tower we would like to taxi to see if we had positive control. After ascertaining we had positive control we advised tower we would like to taxi to gate. Tower cleared us to taxi and hold short of runway 22L. We acknowledged the transmission. However, in the confusion of taxiing and being surrounded by emergency equipment, we inadvertently crossed runway 22L and stopped short of runway 22R.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG ON LNDG ROLLOUT, NOSEWHEEL HAD SEVERE SHIMMY. STOPPED ON RWY AND HAD EMER EQUIP CALLED OUT. MAINT REINSTALLED THE TORSION LINK AND CLRED TO TAXI TO GATE, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22L. IN THE CONFUSION WITH ALL THE EQUIP AROUND THE ACFT, FAILED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22L, STOPPED AT RWY 22R.
Narrative: DURING LNDG ROLL ACFT BEGAN TO SHIMMY WILDLY, BROUGHT ACFT TO STOP ON RWY AND ADVISED TWR TO ALERT EMER EQUIP. APPEARS TORSION LINK-STEERING DISENGAGED UPON LNDG CAUSING NOSEWHEEL TO CASTER VIOLENTLY. LINK WAS REINSTALLED AND WE ADVISED TWR WE WOULD LIKE TO TAXI TO SEE IF WE HAD POSITIVE CTL. AFTER ASCERTAINING WE HAD POSITIVE CTL WE ADVISED TWR WE WOULD LIKE TO TAXI TO GATE. TWR CLRED US TO TAXI AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22L. WE ACKNOWLEDGED THE XMISSION. HOWEVER, IN THE CONFUSION OF TAXIING AND BEING SURROUNDED BY EMER EQUIP, WE INADVERTENTLY CROSSED RWY 22L AND STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 22R.
