Narrative:

Departing runway 36 at oma, clear day, tower said 'cleared for takeoff runway 36, turn left heading 320 degrees.' after takeoff, through 300-500 ft, started left turn to 320 degrees. Shortly after turn started, the tower asked us for our current altitude. It made me wonder what we had done wrong. Sure enough, the IFR departure procedure calls for a straight ahead climb to 2600 ft before commencing any turns. I realized that we had overlooked the IFR departure procedure and instead had referenced the oma 4 departure which is a rather generic departure for oma. Unfortunately, we didn't have the oma 4 clearance, just cleared as filed.

Title: AN ACR MD80 CREW ADMITS THAT THEY TURNED R AFTER TKOF RATHER THAN STRAIGHT AHEAD TO 2600 FT, THEN TURN.

Narrative: DEPARTING RWY 36 AT OMA, CLR DAY, TWR SAID 'CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 36, TURN L HDG 320 DEGS.' AFTER TKOF, THROUGH 300-500 FT, STARTED L TURN TO 320 DEGS. SHORTLY AFTER TURN STARTED, THE TWR ASKED US FOR OUR CURRENT ALT. IT MADE ME WONDER WHAT WE HAD DONE WRONG. SURE ENOUGH, THE IFR DEP PROC CALLS FOR A STRAIGHT AHEAD CLB TO 2600 FT BEFORE COMMENCING ANY TURNS. I REALIZED THAT WE HAD OVERLOOKED THE IFR DEP PROC AND INSTEAD HAD REFED THE OMA 4 DEP WHICH IS A RATHER GENERIC DEP FOR OMA. UNFORTUNATELY, WE DIDN'T HAVE THE OMA 4 CLRNC, JUST CLRED AS FILED.
