Narrative:
We were cleared for takeoff on runway 13 at lga. While rolling on runway, we noticed that we didn't have a confign 'ok' indication on the EICAS and as the thrust levers were advanced, a confign rudder warning was sounded. The first officer aborted the takeoff, but accidentally shut down both engines while doing so. I was able to take over and clear the runway prior to stopping. After stopping, we noticed our rudder trim was slightly out of the 'green' band for takeoff. We adjusted it and the problem cleared. Fire/rescue crews alerted because of the abort. Told us they saw smoke trailing the left engine. This soon stopped and we confirmed that this was due to the engine shutdown. All indications were normal, so we elected to motor and restart the engines. We then got back in line and departed without further incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR ACFT OF UNKNOWN SIZE ABORTED TKOF DUE TO INCORRECTLY SET RUDDER TRIM. DURING ABORT THE PF, FO, INADVERTENTLY SHUT DOWN BOTH ENGS. FLC RESTARTED ENGS, SET RUDDER TRIM PROPERLY AND DEPARTED.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 13 AT LGA. WHILE ROLLING ON RWY, WE NOTICED THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE A CONFIGN 'OK' INDICATION ON THE EICAS AND AS THE THRUST LEVERS WERE ADVANCED, A CONFIGN RUDDER WARNING WAS SOUNDED. THE FO ABORTED THE TKOF, BUT ACCIDENTALLY SHUT DOWN BOTH ENGS WHILE DOING SO. I WAS ABLE TO TAKE OVER AND CLR THE RWY PRIOR TO STOPPING. AFTER STOPPING, WE NOTICED OUR RUDDER TRIM WAS SLIGHTLY OUT OF THE 'GREEN' BAND FOR TKOF. WE ADJUSTED IT AND THE PROB CLRED. FIRE/RESCUE CREWS ALERTED BECAUSE OF THE ABORT. TOLD US THEY SAW SMOKE TRAILING THE L ENG. THIS SOON STOPPED AND WE CONFIRMED THAT THIS WAS DUE TO THE ENG SHUTDOWN. ALL INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL, SO WE ELECTED TO MOTOR AND RESTART THE ENGS. WE THEN GOT BACK IN LINE AND DEPARTED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
