Narrative:
We received a taxi clearance to taxi on taxiway J to hold short of taxiway M. At this time we were also asked if we knew about the ground stop at our destination. We did not. We were further cleared to taxi on taxiway J to hold short of runway 32. I acknowledged the clearance to hold short, then began looking up the clearance delivery frequency, to ask about the duration of the ground stop. While I was doing this, the captain told the ground controller he wanted to taxi to the pad at the base of the tower to evaluate our options his request was acknowledged by ground. Next, ground warned us to hold short of runway 32. I looked up to see that we were 2/3 of the way across runway 32 and an aircraft was conducting a low speed abort on runway 32. As a flight crew we allowed ourselves to be distraction. I read back the clearance to hold short of runway 32, however, the captain did not hear it, or he thought the discussion with ground about proceeding to the pad at the base of the tower was a clearance. The pad is across runway 32 at the intersection of taxiway J and taxiway P.

Title: AN ACR MLG PIC TAXIES HIS ACFT ACROSS AN ACTIVE RWY WITH ANOTHER ACFT ON TKOF HAVING TO ABORT HIS TKOF AT IND, IN.
Narrative: WE RECEIVED A TAXI CLRNC TO TAXI ON TXWY J TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY M. AT THIS TIME WE WERE ALSO ASKED IF WE KNEW ABOUT THE GND STOP AT OUR DEST. WE DID NOT. WE WERE FURTHER CLRED TO TAXI ON TXWY J TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 32. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT, THEN BEGAN LOOKING UP THE CLRNC DELIVERY FREQ, TO ASK ABOUT THE DURATION OF THE GND STOP. WHILE I WAS DOING THIS, THE CAPT TOLD THE GND CTLR HE WANTED TO TAXI TO THE PAD AT THE BASE OF THE TWR TO EVALUATE OUR OPTIONS HIS REQUEST WAS ACKNOWLEDGED BY GND. NEXT, GND WARNED US TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 32. I LOOKED UP TO SEE THAT WE WERE 2/3 OF THE WAY ACROSS RWY 32 AND AN ACFT WAS CONDUCTING A LOW SPD ABORT ON RWY 32. AS A FLC WE ALLOWED OURSELVES TO BE DISTR. I READ BACK THE CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 32, HOWEVER, THE CAPT DID NOT HEAR IT, OR HE THOUGHT THE DISCUSSION WITH GND ABOUT PROCEEDING TO THE PAD AT THE BASE OF THE TWR WAS A CLRNC. THE PAD IS ACROSS RWY 32 AT THE INTXN OF TXWY J AND TXWY P.
