Narrative:
Taxiing for departure, we asked for intersection takeoff from ground control and it was approved. We turned onto taxiway A14 for runway 35R and stopped short of the runway. Ground control advised us to stop immediately, that we had just entered an active runway, passing the hold short line. We looked over our shoulders and saw the hold short line was also the edge of the taxiway where it intersected taxiway A14. A lear on final was advised of our position, and he elected to land. We were then cleared onto hold and then cleared for departure. Factors on our end were complacency, rushing, preoccupation with a growing gusty crosswind and turbulence associated with a cold front moving over the mountains. We were also unfamiliar with the airport and neither pilot had ever seen a hold short line at the edge of the taxiway like they had. We will brief this to all our crews with emphasis on good lookout doctrine - - even on the ground.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A MIL BD90 FLC CROSSED THE HOLD LINE FOR A RWY WITHOUT AUTH.
Narrative: TAXIING FOR DEP, WE ASKED FOR INTXN TKOF FROM GND CTL AND IT WAS APPROVED. WE TURNED ONTO TXWY A14 FOR RWY 35R AND STOPPED SHORT OF THE RWY. GND CTL ADVISED US TO STOP IMMEDIATELY, THAT WE HAD JUST ENTERED AN ACTIVE RWY, PASSING THE HOLD SHORT LINE. WE LOOKED OVER OUR SHOULDERS AND SAW THE HOLD SHORT LINE WAS ALSO THE EDGE OF THE TXWY WHERE IT INTERSECTED TXWY A14. A LEAR ON FINAL WAS ADVISED OF OUR POS, AND HE ELECTED TO LAND. WE WERE THEN CLRED ONTO HOLD AND THEN CLRED FOR DEP. FACTORS ON OUR END WERE COMPLACENCY, RUSHING, PREOCCUPATION WITH A GROWING GUSTY XWIND AND TURB ASSOCIATED WITH A COLD FRONT MOVING OVER THE MOUNTAINS. WE WERE ALSO UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT AND NEITHER PLT HAD EVER SEEN A HOLD SHORT LINE AT THE EDGE OF THE TXWY LIKE THEY HAD. WE WILL BRIEF THIS TO ALL OUR CREWS WITH EMPHASIS ON GOOD LOOKOUT DOCTRINE - - EVEN ON THE GND.
