Narrative:

On direct flight from mev (minden, nv) to sjc (san jose) clear VFR on 210 degree heading, 8500 ft MSL, near miss from left to right, saw by my right front passenger (wife) and I observed then the passing aircraft. Could have been an experimental or cessna. No time for evasive action. This is off-airway and is a remote area for flying in california. Approached from near 90 degrees off left. Radar flight following would have been beneficial.
