Narrative:
On climb out of jfk, approximately 15 mins after takeoff, the flight attendant sitting at 1LC asked if I could smell fumes. I told her yes, and immediately went to the cockpit. When I entered the cockpit, the captain was calling me to see if we could smell anything in the cabin. I told him, yes, it was through the entire cabin. He told me we were returning to jfk. We then informed the passenger. We did not brief the passenger for an evacuate/evacuation, but were prepared to evacuate/evacuation. The cockpit chose to go home. The flight attendants had headaches, but chose to continue on to our base on another aircraft (which we worked). Cockpit was jfk based and the flight attendants were lax based.
