Narrative:
ATC informed us that we were above the assigned altitude for that portion of the SID, 1500 ft prior to 4.5 DME. This occurred during climb checklist phase of flight. My altimeter also did not agree with the pilot's altimeter. There is possible poor crew coordination and imprecise interpretation of DME readout. Also, the SID printout page had multiple transitions that could be confusing. Supplemental information from acn 469551: on climb out from teb on SID, called for turn to 280 degrees, climb to 1500 ft until 4.5 DME. I thought I had leveled at 1500 ft. Apparently after 1500 ft my attention was diverted to climb after takeoff check. Although I have only +/-25 hours in this type, that is no excuse -- neither is the fact that I am unfamiliar with the departure and had a runway change at the last min. I must be more vigilant, careful and meticulous in my personal CRM as well as in crew coordination. I will manage the aircraft better and deal better with the increased power as well.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A BE20 SUPER KING AIR CLBS ABOVE ITS ASSIGNED ALT DURING A SID DEP PROC FROM TEB, NJ.
Narrative: ATC INFORMED US THAT WE WERE ABOVE THE ASSIGNED ALT FOR THAT PORTION OF THE SID, 1500 FT PRIOR TO 4.5 DME. THIS OCCURRED DURING CLB CHKLIST PHASE OF FLT. MY ALTIMETER ALSO DID NOT AGREE WITH THE PLT'S ALTIMETER. THERE IS POSSIBLE POOR CREW COORD AND IMPRECISE INTERP OF DME READOUT. ALSO, THE SID PRINTOUT PAGE HAD MULTIPLE TRANSITIONS THAT COULD BE CONFUSING. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 469551: ON CLBOUT FROM TEB ON SID, CALLED FOR TURN TO 280 DEGS, CLB TO 1500 FT UNTIL 4.5 DME. I THOUGHT I HAD LEVELED AT 1500 FT. APPARENTLY AFTER 1500 FT MY ATTN WAS DIVERTED TO CLB AFTER TKOF CHK. ALTHOUGH I HAVE ONLY +/-25 HRS IN THIS TYPE, THAT IS NO EXCUSE -- NEITHER IS THE FACT THAT I AM UNFAMILIAR WITH THE DEP AND HAD A RWY CHANGE AT THE LAST MIN. I MUST BE MORE VIGILANT, CAREFUL AND METICULOUS IN MY PERSONAL CRM AS WELL AS IN CREW COORD. I WILL MANAGE THE ACFT BETTER AND DEAL BETTER WITH THE INCREASED PWR AS WELL.
