Narrative:
Flight XXX, yyz-ord, 01/jan/thur approximately XA12, yyz tower cleared us to taxi to runway 23 via txwys a, H, and Q. Holding short, #1 in line-up. Tower told us we had 3 mins to be off ground or incur 30 min takeoff delay, awaiting our final close-out figures. Just then, close-out arrived and I (captain) requested full length runway 23. Tower advised taxi up to and hold short of runway 23 on taxiway Q, from current position of txwys H and Q junction. At this time we began reviewing close-out data and completing checklist. As I turned aircraft to align it with taxiway Q centerline and pulled up approximately 1/2 - 3/4 aircraft length beyond txwys H and Q junction and stopped aircraft. At this time tower said 'XXX, stop, stop.' we advised tower we were stopped and asked what was problem. Tower said we pulled past hold short line. We said we saw hold short line in front of aircraft and tower advised it was painted over, although we were able to see the painted over line out ahead 50-60 ft in front of aircraft in taxi light illumination. No conflicts occurred with landing and departing aircraft, and we were well clear of runway 23 on taxiway Q, just beyond txwys H and Q juncture. No evasive action required or taken. Mishap occurred due to being late (behind schedule) and rushed to meet 3 min takeoff window and get close-out data and checklist complete to avoid 30 min takeoff hold. The painted over hold short lines were still visible and misleading even at night conditions. In the future, both pilots must monitor all taxi movement jointly and avoid distrs.

Title: MD80 CREW TAXIED PAST HOLD LINE, SHORT OF RWY.
Narrative: FLT XXX, YYZ-ORD, 01/JAN/THUR APPROX XA12, YYZ TWR CLRED US TO TAXI TO RWY 23 VIA TXWYS A, H, AND Q. HOLDING SHORT, #1 IN LINE-UP. AS I TURNED ACFT TO ALIGN IT WITH TXWY Q CTRLINE AND PULLED UP APPROX 1/2 - 3/4 ACFT LENGTH BEYOND TXWYS H AND Q JUNCTION AND STOPPED ACFT. AT THIS TIME TWR SAID 'XXX, STOP, STOP.' WE ADVISED TWR WE WERE STOPPED AND ASKED WHAT WAS PROB. TWR SAID WE PULLED PAST HOLD SHORT LINE. WE SAID WE SAW HOLD SHORT LINE IN FRONT OF ACFT AND TWR ADVISED IT WAS PAINTED OVER, ALTHOUGH WE WERE ABLE TO SEE THE PAINTED OVER LINE OUT AHEAD 50-60 FT IN FRONT OF ACFT IN TAXI LIGHT ILLUMINATION. NO CONFLICTS OCCURRED WITH LNDG AND DEPARTING ACFT, AND WE WERE WELL CLR OF RWY 23 ON TXWY Q, JUST BEYOND TXWYS H AND Q JUNCTURE. NO EVASIVE ACTION REQUIRED OR TAKEN. MISHAP OCCURRED DUE TO BEING LATE (BEHIND SCHEDULE) AND RUSHED TO MEET 3 MIN TKOF WINDOW AND GET CLOSE-OUT DATA AND CHKLIST COMPLETE TO AVOID 30 MIN TKOF HOLD. THE PAINTED OVER HOLD SHORT LINES WERE STILL VISIBLE AND MISLEADING EVEN AT NIGHT CONDITIONS. IN THE FUTURE, BOTH PLTS MUST MONITOR ALL TAXI MOVEMENT JOINTLY AND AVOID DISTRS.
