Narrative:

I was sent to fly a post maintenance evaluation flight. Aircraft had suffered a loss of a generator, and the APU started but would not pick up load. A review of the logbook prior to flight showed open write-ups associated with discrepancy leading to evaluation flight. While against normal procedure, this seemed consistent with conditions. Company operations manual gave us direction. After the flight, company quality assurance department informed us that a special write-off was required prior to flight.
