Narrative:
We were scheduled to operate aircraft X (an A310 with ge engines) from mem to dfw on jun/tue/01. There were 2 deferrals or MEL's. 1 for the #2 engine digital N1 and 1 for the power management control. If the power management control is not working, some power settings must be set manually. The N1 being inoperative concerned me, so I called maintenance before I went to the aircraft. Besides the digital N1 there is also an analog N1. Maintenance said the analog N1 for #2 engine was working and could be used to set the power. We operated the flight without a problem using the analog N1. Although I checked the MEL, I failed to note a remark that requires the power management control to be operational if the digital N1 is inoperative.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN A310 FLC OPERATED THEIR ACFT WITHOUT ADHERING TO THE RESTRS WITHIN THEIR MEL FOR AN INOP DIGITAL N1 INDICATOR AND AN INOP PWR MGMNT CTL, A PRIMARY THRUST SETTING INST AT MEM, TN.
Narrative: WE WERE SCHEDULED TO OPERATE ACFT X (AN A310 WITH GE ENGS) FROM MEM TO DFW ON JUN/TUE/01. THERE WERE 2 DEFERRALS OR MEL'S. 1 FOR THE #2 ENG DIGITAL N1 AND 1 FOR THE PWR MGMNT CTL. IF THE PWR MGMNT CTL IS NOT WORKING, SOME PWR SETTINGS MUST BE SET MANUALLY. THE N1 BEING INOP CONCERNED ME, SO I CALLED MAINT BEFORE I WENT TO THE ACFT. BESIDES THE DIGITAL N1 THERE IS ALSO AN ANALOG N1. MAINT SAID THE ANALOG N1 FOR #2 ENG WAS WORKING AND COULD BE USED TO SET THE PWR. WE OPERATED THE FLT WITHOUT A PROB USING THE ANALOG N1. ALTHOUGH I CHKED THE MEL, I FAILED TO NOTE A REMARK THAT REQUIRES THE PWR MGMNT CTL TO BE OPERATIONAL IF THE DIGITAL N1 IS INOP.
