Narrative:
Our clearance was after departure 175 degrees, radar vectors mead 2 departure, peach springs transition, out of las. We departed runway 19R and were told to 'fly 175 degrees, contact departure.' departure stated 'radar contact climb to 8000 ft.' I do not recall other instructions. According to the procedure for runway 19R, it states 'runway heading until reaching las 3 DME then turn right to a 360 degree heading. As we passed 3 DME we started the right turn, as we passed a 240 degree heading the controller stopped us and told us to 'immediately turn left to 150 degrees, traffic departed runway 25.' we turned to 150 degrees and nothing else occurred. Normally I would have asked the controller if he or she wants us to maintain this heading or execute the procedure. It might have been more clear if he had said something like 'maintain 175 degrees until advised.'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE36 PLT FLEW DEP SID AFTER BEING CLRED TO FLY A HDG FOR VECTORS ON THE MEAD 2 AT LAS.
Narrative: OUR CLRNC WAS AFTER DEP 175 DEGS, RADAR VECTORS MEAD 2 DEP, PEACH SPRINGS TRANSITION, OUT OF LAS. WE DEPARTED RWY 19R AND WERE TOLD TO 'FLY 175 DEGS, CONTACT DEP.' DEP STATED 'RADAR CONTACT CLB TO 8000 FT.' I DO NOT RECALL OTHER INSTRUCTIONS. ACCORDING TO THE PROC FOR RWY 19R, IT STATES 'RWY HDG UNTIL REACHING LAS 3 DME THEN TURN R TO A 360 DEG HDG. AS WE PASSED 3 DME WE STARTED THE R TURN, AS WE PASSED A 240 DEG HDG THE CTLR STOPPED US AND TOLD US TO 'IMMEDIATELY TURN L TO 150 DEGS, TFC DEPARTED RWY 25.' WE TURNED TO 150 DEGS AND NOTHING ELSE OCCURRED. NORMALLY I WOULD HAVE ASKED THE CTLR IF HE OR SHE WANTS US TO MAINTAIN THIS HDG OR EXECUTE THE PROC. IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MORE CLR IF HE HAD SAID SOMETHING LIKE 'MAINTAIN 175 DEGS UNTIL ADVISED.'
