Narrative:

En route from iad to lga, experienced an FMS failure in IMC while flying the korry 1 arrival. As PNF (first officer) assisting the captain with navigation, I brought it to his attention that we needed to be down to 11000 ft for brand intersection. He instructed me to inform ATC that we would not be down in time. We were high over brand and possibly korry as well. I could have done a better job briefing the captain as we flew the arrival to ease his workload. This arrival is very confusing to read with its many fixes and altitude crossing restrs (especially while flying in turbulence). Chart maker should consider enlarging this arrival (perhaps by splitting it in half on the front and back side of a sheet). In addition, it would be helpful to use color to differentiate distances defining fixes, fix names, and crossing restrs. This would help them to be idented quicker while being bounced around in turbulence as we were on this flight.

Title: A CRJ-200 FLT IS HIGH OVER BRAND INTXN AFTER THE CREW IS UNABLE TO DEAL WITH A FAILED FMS AND TURB ON THEIR DSCNT ON THE ENO KORRY 1 STAR ARR TO LGA, NY.

Narrative: ENRTE FROM IAD TO LGA, EXPERIENCED AN FMS FAILURE IN IMC WHILE FLYING THE KORRY 1 ARR. AS PNF (FO) ASSISTING THE CAPT WITH NAV, I BROUGHT IT TO HIS ATTN THAT WE NEEDED TO BE DOWN TO 11000 FT FOR BRAND INTXN. HE INSTRUCTED ME TO INFORM ATC THAT WE WOULD NOT BE DOWN IN TIME. WE WERE HIGH OVER BRAND AND POSSIBLY KORRY AS WELL. I COULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB BRIEFING THE CAPT AS WE FLEW THE ARR TO EASE HIS WORKLOAD. THIS ARR IS VERY CONFUSING TO READ WITH ITS MANY FIXES AND ALT XING RESTRS (ESPECIALLY WHILE FLYING IN TURB). CHART MAKER SHOULD CONSIDER ENLARGING THIS ARR (PERHAPS BY SPLITTING IT IN HALF ON THE FRONT AND BACK SIDE OF A SHEET). IN ADDITION, IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO USE COLOR TO DIFFERENTIATE DISTANCES DEFINING FIXES, FIX NAMES, AND XING RESTRS. THIS WOULD HELP THEM TO BE IDENTED QUICKER WHILE BEING BOUNCED AROUND IN TURB AS WE WERE ON THIS FLT.
