Narrative:

I was given a taxi clearance that I incorrectly followed. 'Taxi to runway 12R at M7, hold short runway 22 at taxiway west.' I then read back 'hold short of runway 12R.' I taxied onto runway 22 on my way to runway 12R thinking that runway 22 was being used as a taxiway and not an activated runway. Runway 22 was a crossing runway, and not normally used, especially at peak time as in this case. Runway 22 was being used for departures, and I, therefore, taxied onto runway 22, but not during a departure event. Reading back all of the clearance should have been done. ATC also should have enforced complete readback, since this was an unusual clearance.

Title: ACFT TAXIING FOR DEP AT MSP CROSSED RWY WITHOUT ATC CLRNC.

Narrative: I WAS GIVEN A TAXI CLRNC THAT I INCORRECTLY FOLLOWED. 'TAXI TO RWY 12R AT M7, HOLD SHORT RWY 22 AT TXWY W.' I THEN READ BACK 'HOLD SHORT OF RWY 12R.' I TAXIED ONTO RWY 22 ON MY WAY TO RWY 12R THINKING THAT RWY 22 WAS BEING USED AS A TXWY AND NOT AN ACTIVATED RWY. RWY 22 WAS A XING RWY, AND NOT NORMALLY USED, ESPECIALLY AT PEAK TIME AS IN THIS CASE. RWY 22 WAS BEING USED FOR DEPS, AND I, THEREFORE, TAXIED ONTO RWY 22, BUT NOT DURING A DEP EVENT. READING BACK ALL OF THE CLRNC SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE. ATC ALSO SHOULD HAVE ENFORCED COMPLETE READBACK, SINCE THIS WAS AN UNUSUAL CLRNC.
