Narrative:

On climb out from rjaa, got full blown engine #2 fire warning. Shut down #2 engine. Declared emergency and dumped 90000 pounds fuel and returned to rjaa and landed uneventful. The #2 engine was shut down, but we also indicated 1800 pounds of fuel still going to the #2 engine on the fuel gauge. Thus we decided to land slightly overweight, 435000 pounds. We weren't sure if fuel was still going to engine that was shut down. Supplemental information from acn 621099: the fire warning was no longer active at the completion of the engine fire checklist and we had discharged 1 engine fire extinguisher bottle. This was done prior to starting the fuel dump. The fire equipment confirmed no smoke, fire or leaking fuel. We taxied to parking and the passenger were deplaned. Callback conversation with reporter on acn 621098 revealed the following information: the reporter stated the engine was shut down and an emergency was declared. The reporter said fuel dumping was started but would require 23 mins of dump time. The reporter said it was decided to make a more direct approach to the diversion station and land overweight when it was noted the #2 engine fuel flow indicator still indicated 1800-2000 pounds of fuel going to #2 engine. The reporter stated the landing was uneventful. The reporter said maintenance found no evidence of fire and reported it was a false warning. Callback conversation with reporter on acn 621099 revealed the following information: the reporter stated the in-flight shutdown was per the checklist but the fuel flow indication was puzzling as it indicated 1800 pounds per hour and factored into the decision to land overweight. The reporter said the fuel flow indication with the firewall shutoff pulled was reported and the carrier is investigating this anomaly. The reporter stated a bulletin was issued by the carrier describing the fuel flow indication and it may be normal although the simulator is not programmed to indicate fuel flow.

THE RPTR STATED THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. THE RPTR SAID MAINT FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF FIRE AND RPTED IT WAS A FALSE WARNING. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ON ACN 621099 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE INFLT SHUTDOWN WAS PER THE CHKLIST BUT THE FUEL FLOW INDICATION WAS PUZZLING AS IT INDICATED 1800 LBS PER HR AND FACTORED INTO THE DECISION TO LAND OVERWT. THE RPTR SAID THE FUEL FLOW INDICATION WITH THE FIREWALL SHUTOFF PULLED WAS RPTED AND THE CARRIER IS INVESTIGATING THIS ANOMALY. THE RPTR STATED A BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BY THE CARRIER DESCRIBING THE FUEL FLOW INDICATION AND IT MAY BE NORMAL ALTHOUGH THE SIMULATOR IS NOT PROGRAMMED TO INDICATE FUEL FLOW.
