Narrative:
While working aircraft X was called out to evaluate a gouge in the skin below the main cargo door. The original skin thickness was .100 approximately and the deepest point of damage was .016 deep, was found to be out of limits. We deferred the gouge for 50 flight hours for a permanent repair with the concurrence between supervision, engineering, and mechanics involved. The next night that aircraft arrived at ZZZ. Engineering requested additional mapping of the subject area damage. Upon completion of the mapping engineering requested that the aircraft be grounded until a decision could be made to what type of repair would be appropriate for the situation. The subject aircraft was grounded approximately XA00 aug/tue/04.
