Narrative:
At waco, tx, tower cleared us to taxi to runway via taxiway D. Taxiway D led to approach end of runway 32, not runway 1. We were holding short of runway 32 and cleared for takeoff. We taxied into position and held to spool our engines, turned on all of our lights, and started our takeoff roll. Tower said nothing, until we were airborne, that we did not take off on the runway he had cleared us for. After analyzing the airport map we could see that you had to taxi down runway 32 and make a 50 degree turn to the right to take off on runway 1. The tower should have said, 'taxi down runway 32, cleared for takeoff runway 1 (since taxiway D only led to the approach end of runway 32). We had performance for both runway 32 and runway 1. We will always check runway heading and our surface map a lot closer from now on. A double checking from the first officer and captain of the proposed runway and how txwys approach runways will be done. Final checks of directional gyros on both sides of the flight deck will be done to make sure heading matches runway cleared to take off from.

Title: FLT CREW OF MD80 CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 1 AT ACT DEPART THE INTERSECTING RWY 32 INSTEAD.
Narrative: AT WACO, TX, TWR CLRED US TO TAXI TO RWY VIA TXWY D. TXWY D LED TO APCH END OF RWY 32, NOT RWY 1. WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 32 AND CLRED FOR TKOF. WE TAXIED INTO POS AND HELD TO SPOOL OUR ENGS, TURNED ON ALL OF OUR LIGHTS, AND STARTED OUR TKOF ROLL. TWR SAID NOTHING, UNTIL WE WERE AIRBORNE, THAT WE DID NOT TAKE OFF ON THE RWY HE HAD CLRED US FOR. AFTER ANALYZING THE ARPT MAP WE COULD SEE THAT YOU HAD TO TAXI DOWN RWY 32 AND MAKE A 50 DEG TURN TO THE R TO TAKE OFF ON RWY 1. THE TWR SHOULD HAVE SAID, 'TAXI DOWN RWY 32, CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 1 (SINCE TXWY D ONLY LED TO THE APCH END OF RWY 32). WE HAD PERFORMANCE FOR BOTH RWY 32 AND RWY 1. WE WILL ALWAYS CHK RWY HDG AND OUR SURFACE MAP A LOT CLOSER FROM NOW ON. A DOUBLE CHKING FROM THE FO AND CAPT OF THE PROPOSED RWY AND HOW TXWYS APCH RWYS WILL BE DONE. FINAL CHKS OF DIRECTIONAL GYROS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FLT DECK WILL BE DONE TO MAKE SURE HDG MATCHES RWY CLRED TO TAKE OFF FROM.
