Narrative:

During climb out from rsw, passing FL250, the tail compartment temperature high light came on. We did the red box items and then completed the QRH checklist. Upon closing the left throttle and turning off the left pack, the light went out. The QRH 'C/left' was accomplished and we decided to divert to tpa. Upon contact with tpa approach, he asked if we were declaring an emergency, and we said no. He then stated that he was declaring one for us. The descent, landing and rollout were uneventful, and the light never came on again. The emergency vehicles were standing by as we rolled out, and no further assistance was needed. We taxied to the gate. A logbook write-up was made and we talked to the mechanic before going to a new airplane to continue to stl.
